ACT Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch recently announced that Taylor Primary School which was temporarily closed in March 2012 due to structural damage discovered at the school following heavy rainfall, will reopen in time for the start of the 2014 school year after a $13 million upgrade.
Ms. Burch explained that the ACT Government allocated close to $13 million in the 2012-13 ACT Budget for the rectification and upgrade of Taylor Primary School adding that the major upgrade demonstrated the ACT Government’s commitment to investing in our schools to ensure they meet community demand.
“The decision to undertake a major upgrade has given us the opportunity to re-fit it the school with new state-of-the-art classrooms. Taylor Primary School will be a modern and vibrant 21st century learning environment.” Ms. Burch commented.
Ms. Burch explained that the students and staff who were relocated to Namadgi School for 2013 will return to the Taylor Primary School site for the start of the 2014 school year.
“Works on the project will include the expansion of the on-site childcare facility as part of our commitment to deliver more childcare places across Canberra.” Ms. Burch commented
Ms. Burch explained that the child care centre on the site is also being expanded from 24 to 65 places.
