This week at HOYTS and the national Australian box office October 2 – October 4 (and 5th in those states acknowledging the public holiday), the new Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson thriller Verity took over the top spot with $4.23M on its opening weekend, while bringing in $5M overall with advance screenings. The horror release Resident Evil came in at number two with $1.86M, taking its total box office to $10.7M.
Brad Pitt’s latest film, Heart of the Beast, landed in third place with $1.82M which brings its total to $4.99M. Popular during the school holidays, the animated fantasy comedy Forgotten Island came in fourth with $1.67M bringing its box office total to $5.51M. Rounding out the top five was the Hindi title, Drishyam: The Conclusion which generated $1.29M at the box office on the movie’s opening weekend. Including the public holiday in New South Wales, South Australia and Australian Capital Territory, the top 10 movies together contributed to 83% of the total national gross box office for the weekend. The top genres of the weekend were thriller and drama with Verity taking the top spot at the Australian box office.

- Hindi title Drishyam: The Conclusion debuted at number five and generated $1.29M at the box office on the movie’s opening weekend.
- PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie landed in sixth where it earned $1.2M. The movie now has a total $5.86M at the box office.
- At number seven was Coyote vs. Acme which tracked down $1.01M, bringing the movie’s total box office to $3.88M.
- Tom’s Cruise’s latest release Digger debuted at number eight where it found $943k at the box office over the movie’s opening weekend.
- At number nine was Spider-Man: Brand new Day which brought in another $838k on its tenth weekend, taking the movie’s box office total to a marvellous $89.4M.
- Rounding out the top 10, Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom earned $797k this weekend, bringing the movie’s total box office to $2.44M.
- QUEEN Budapest: On July 27, 1986, Queen performed at Budapest’s Népstadion in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans, a concert now beautifully remastered in 4K with a powerful new audio mix. Available at select locations and in IMAX from October 7.
- The Social Reckoning: A companion piece to the hit film The Social Network, Sorkin’s original screenplay – based on events that gave rise to The Wall Street Journal’s exposé The Facebook Files. Available across all locations and in HOYTS LUX from October 8.
- Other Mommy: Bela, an 8-year-old girl living in a home with marital problems, confronts a sinister entity that comes out of her closet. The presence, whom she calls ‘Other Mommy’, becomes increasingly threatening to her and her family. Available across all locations and in HOYTS APEX, Xtremescreen, HOYTS LUX and D-BOX from October 8.
- Stitch Head: Follows Stitch Head, a small creature awoken by a Mad Professor in a castle to protect the professor’s other creations from the townspeople of Grubbers Nubbin. Available across all locations from October 8.
- Tad Jones and The Magic Lamp: Tad, his girlfriend Sara and their friends Momia, Jeff and Belzoni embark on an adventure after Tadeo accidentally unleashes an ancient spell. Available across all locations from October 8.
- LOMU: A complex and nuanced portrait of Jonah Lomu, the legendary New Zealand All Blacks rugby player who transcended the game with his immense power and unstoppable determination. Available at select locations from October 8.
- Ninja Scroll: When Jubei saves a young ninja, their shared journey uncovers a demonic conspiracy. Getting closer to the truth, evil forces will stop at nothing to silence them. Available across select locations from October 8.
- Reawakened Man: About the events that unfold after longtime job seeker Seok Hwan discovers that he has the ability to resurrect three days after his death. Available at select locations from October 8.
- Matloob Aelian: In a comedic and suspenseful setting, the film revolves around an Interpol agent who undertakes a complex joint mission with one of his colleagues. Available at select locations from October 9.
- Aadarsha Kutumbam House No: 47 #AK47: A seemingly flawless family at House No. 47 unravels after an incident reveals hidden tensions. Available at select locations from October 9.
- Always Lalisa: A feature-length documentary following global superstar LISA during a transformative year away from Blackpink, the K-pop phenomenon that made her one of the world’s most recognizable performers. Available at select locations and in IMAX from October 12.
