What’s the last movie that made you cry?
There’s been more than a few movies that have made me cry. Now for the sake of padding things out a little the first movie i remember walking out though admittedly the memories of the actual event are a little hazy (considering it was 31 years ago) and yes I accept that the parental figures might recollect things differently. Well the movie was While you were sleeping directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. Now in my defence I was 13 at the time and was probably a year maybe two years off of actively watching a romantic movie. In retrospect it was not my best decision, waiting around for people to get out of a movie session was boring as hell for a 13 year old me. There are only 2 movies I refused to watch in high school the first was Schindler’s List. At the time I just was not in the right frame of mind to be able to watch it. The second movie (at least I think it was a ‘movie’) was one of those things high school teachers show to students to scare the crap out of them so they will be careful when they eventually start learning to drive.
Now, we need to remember there are certain movies that we shouldn’t watch in certain situations. Graphically Gory Horror movies before going to bed? Never a good idea. When I watched Hobo with a Shotgun it kept me awake from about 12am until 6am. The first movies that scared the crap out of myself because I watched them alone in a dark room The Fan and Proteus. Now, getting back to the prompt at hand when we talk about movies making you cry, we have to talk about does the question mean, movies that make you cry; do the question mean movies that make you cry from beginning to end? Or specific movie scenes that you cry? Because there are more movie scenes that have made me cry than entire movies. Now,for the movie in question, it was watched in high school for class assessment for social education (social studies for the Americans) the movie? The 1992 musical film Sarafina! directed by Darrell Roodt. The scene in question was the brutal murder of the corrupt black police officer Constable Sabela which was very confronting for a 13-15 year old me.
