The Cat Protection Society of Victoria (CPSV) is marking International Cat Day with a series of special initiatives and public events that highlight feline wellbeing, community connection and the organisation’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable cats on their journey to adoption. To coincide with International Cat Day on Saturday 8 August, CPSV is bringing together supporters through celebratory fundraising events, community engagement and the official opening of its new Nurture and Enrichment Hub. The Hub is a dedicated, low-stress sanctuary designed specifically for vulnerable cats needing extra care, time and behavioural support before they are ready to be adopted into loving homes. CPSV Marketing and Communications Manager Rachel Bitzilis said many cats arrive in care timid, fearful or overwhelmed, often with limited positive human interaction, while others struggle to cope in a busy shelter environment.
“The new Nurture and Enrichment Hub has been created to provide a calm, low-stress space focused on tailored enrichment, gentle socialisation and individual behavioural support to help the cats in our care to be settled and suitable for adoption,” Rachel commented “The Hub will officially open on International Cat Day on August eighth and represents an important milestone in CPSV’s ongoing commitment to improving welfare outcomes for cats requiring specialised care. Not every cat arrives ready for adoption on day one – some need time, patience and the right environment to feel safe and secure again. The Nurture and Enrichment Hub is designed to provide exactly that. It gives cats the space, care and support they need to decompress, build confidence and reveal their true personalities, helping them on their journey towards a loving forever home.”
Funds raised through CPSV’s International Cat Day celebrations will support the Hub, funding enrichment resources, behavioural support and specialised care for cats and kittens in need. Victorians can also contribute through donations and sponsorships, helping provide essential enrichment items such as climbing structures, bedding, sensory toys, scratching posts and interactive resources that improve feline wellbeing and confidence. A key fundraising event is the Purr-suit of Knowledge International Cat Day Trivia Party on Friday 7 August at Welcome to Thornbury. The evening will bring together cat-lovers, CPSV supporters and trivia enthusiasts for a night of general knowledge and feline-themed fun, all in support of cats who need extra care and attention.
“International Cat Day is an opportunity to celebrate cats, while also recognising those who need a little extra support,” Rachel commented .
CPSV is encouraging the community to get involved by attending events, making a donation or sharing the campaign to help more cats receive the support they deserve. Tickets for the Purr-suit of Knowledge Trivia Party are now available. To make a tax-deductible donation or learn more about the Nurture and Enrichment Hub, visit catprotection.com.au/hub/.
