This weekend (June 12th – 14th) at HOYTS and the Australian Box office, Steven Spielberg once again brought us to the edge of our seats with Disclosure Day which debuted at number one earning $3.7M in its opening weekend. This marks his biggest opener in 18 years. At number two was the popular horror flick Obsession which brought in $2.75M and takes its cume to $15.81M – making it the second highest grossing horror movie of all time. The Wayans brothers came in at number three this week with Scary Movie where the horror comedy brought in $1.79M in its second weekend. Backrooms landed at number four where it gained another $1.36M this weekend, taking its cumulative box office total to $12.05M. Rounding out the top five this weekend was He-Man and Masters of the Universe which brought home $904k, raising its box office total to $3.70M. HOYTS ended the weekend in the number one spot for the 17th week in a row. The top 10 movies together contributed to 90.82% of the total national gross box office for the weekend. HOYTS had five sites in the top 10 this week: Carousel #1, Chadstone #2, Melbourne Central #6, Karrinyup #7 and Highpoint #10. Sci-fi proves to be the leading genre this week. This follows the return of Steven Spielberg, with Disclosure Day debuting in the number one spot this weekend.






Top 10 Movies:
- Disclosure Day debuted in the spot on its opening weekend, garnering $3.7M. With advance screenings its current box office total is $3.97M. This is Spielberg’s biggest opening in 18 years.
- Obsession remained at number two for the third week of its five-week run, adding another $2.75M to its $15.81M box office total. It has become the second highest grossing horror movie of all time
- Scary Movie came in third place and took home $1.79M in its second weekend, bringing the movie’s box office total to $6.67M
- Backrooms came in at number four where it gained another $1.36M this weekend, taking its cumulative box office total to $12.05M
- Fifth place went to Masters of The Universe which brought home $904k, which raised its box office total to $3.70M.
- Michael earned another $878k at the box office over its eighth weekend where it earned sixth place. The movie’s total box office is now at a thrilling $44.47M and has overtaken Bohemian Rhapsody to become the highest grossing music biopic of all time.
- The force was with Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu where it landed in seventh place and brought home $583k over the weekend. Its total box office is now at $14.1M
- The Devil Wears Prada 2 struck a pose at number eight this weekend, bringing in $441k, raising its box office total to a stunning $41.07M
- The Sheep Detectives uncovered $420k this weekend at number nine where this family favourite has brought in $8.35M for its box office total.
- Colony rounded out the top 10, bringing home $319k at the box office on its opening weekend.
