15-year-old Kim, struggling with digital overload, is dragged into a magical realm by a mysterious claw. Guided by alien dog Jeff and Aboriginal Elders, they journey across five islands in 24 hours, facing surreal trials and inner demons.

The decision to watch Imagine was a spur of the moment decision aided by getting the chance to look at some stills from the movie. The stills were beautiful, I also found that the design of the character Kim reminded me partially of the British children’s series Strange Hill High from 2013. I Will admit that before I sat down to write my review I gave Imagine a second watch because I felt that I didn’t understand the philosophy discussed in the movie. Now this has received a cinematic release and if you get the opportunity you really need see this on a cinema sized screen. I also loved the soundtrack particularly during the second underwater sequence with the ferry and the platypus. Now the reason to watch this when it makes its way to streaming or DVD you’ll be able to rewind things if you’re prone to dense moments like me.

In animated movies it is always fun seeing familiar voices popping up in the strangest of places. Though I might not be the biggest fan of Taika Waititi, I loved seeing him voice a Michael Jackson Thriller inspired zombie talking about the importance of books. I also enjoyed the tribute to Jack and Rose on the door after the sinking of the titanic by two fleas voiced by Dane Simpson and Tai Hara. Now Marvel movies might have conditioned us to watch movie credits for mid and post credits scenes, though there are no mid and post credits scenes I thought the credits were unique in a beautiful way.
