Left heartbroken in Rome after a wedding disaster, a stranded groom finds his ruined honeymoon transformed by a determined local and a few meddling travelers-proving that sometimes heartbreak is only the beginning.

I stumbled across the trailer for Solo Mio while watching videos on YouTube. Solo Mio had a charming quality to it, so I’m kind of glad that I got the chance to watch Solo Mio. If memory serves in recent months this the second movie that I’ve reviewed that was released by Angel and also the second movie that I’ve reviewed that has featured Kevin James. Now I’m pretty sure I’ve always regarded Kevin James as a television actor (even though he’s starred in a string of Adam Sandler movies). However, after seeing James in Guns Up and now Solo Mio I’m starting to think James might have something that’s worth paying attention to. James was great in the awkward scenes that you’d expect from a romantic comedy. I also enjoyed James’ moments with Andrea Bocelli. Nicole Grimaudo was great as Gia opposite James’ Matt. I loved when Matt first met Gia in her cafe.

Though romantic movies might be slightly cliched, having a male lead instead of a female lead enables the filmmakers to go a slightly different direction with the A and B choice. Directed by Charles and Daniel Kinnane, I’m unfamiliar with their work. It should be noted that The Kinnane Brothers, are an independent film company founded by eight brothers. They are known for their short films starring Kevin James, Sound Guy, NBC’s Next Olympic Hopeful, and an award-winning short film, Rigor Mortis. It will be interesting to see if the brothers get the opportunity to work in other genres. Charles and Daniel delivered a very watchable movie. Shooting a romance movie or a romantic comedy in Italy is a little cliched. However, considering how beautiful Italy is, it’s the kind of cliche that everybody can readily forgive. I was pleasantly surprised to see Alyson Hannigan pop up in this one. Kim Coates was certainly an odd casting choice, when I’ve come across him previously in movies he’s always been in more ‘action’ roles. Coates gave a great performance and I loved his rendition of Drift Away. I also loved the group scenes between Coates, Jonathan Roumie and Kevin James.
