Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Director James Mangold

Starring Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge & Mads Mikkelsen

Rated M

Score 1/6

Daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi who works for NASA.

I’ve put off watching this one as long as possible. During its production The dial of destiny was greeted with a certain amount of anger directed at Phoebe Waller-Bridge by internet trolls (or a section of the YouTube film critic community). For those of you who might not have known The Dial of Destiny is what is known as a legacy sequel. As Legacy sequels go the dial of destiny is like that bacon double cheeseburger you always order at your favourite restaurant, that’s order for you while you were in the toilet when you might’ve wanted the seafood basket and everybody gets outraged when you tell them you didn’t want the bacon double cheeseburger.

This was an uninspired movie with mostly uninspiring action sequences that looked like they were done on green screen and not on location. Director James Mangold has delivered better movies to the screen. However, I believe that even though Dial of destiny is an unwanted bacon double cheeseburger, it’s not as bad as the certain section of YouTube film critics were making it out to be. But that’s only if you believe the rumours about the reshoots. Harrison Ford’s performance was about on par with Liam Neeson in Taken 3 (even though Ford was in his 80s and Neeson was in his 60s). Even though it was ridiculed at the time Kingdom of the Crystal Skull should have been the final Indiana Jones Movie. The ONLY thing that came close to saving (and yet failed) this tragically mediocre movie was the cameo appearances from the other more successful Indiana Jones movies.
