Guns Up

Director Edward Drake
Starring Kevin James and Christina Ricci
Rated MA
Score 3/6

On the brink of leaving “The Family,” a mob henchman’s final job goes off the rails. With the clock ticking, the ex-cop has one night to get his unsuspecting family out of the city before he gets snuffed out.

For those of you who are wondering, director Edward Drake is regarded by a few people as the worst filmmaker ever. Now, yes Drake has directed a string of poorly received Bruce Willis movies. However, I’d award the title of worst filmmaker ever to anybody who has ever directed a movie released by The Asylum. If you’re after a movie that’s grittier then Guns Up yet still a little bit similar I’d suggest a 2015 movie starring Liam Neeson Run All Night. Kevin James has definitely shed the King of Queens aura he had and it will be interesting to see if he takes the step to be the lead in an action movie away from comedies. I loved Francis Cronin’s performance as Danny and it was great to see Luis Guzmán in a larger movie role. In the past I’ve only seen him in minor supporting roles. Now, the one drawback with the movie is that even though the movie’s finale was extremely hilarious I felt that the filmmakers didn’t do enough to earn it.
