Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions

Director Satoshi Kuwabara
Starring Shunsuke Kazama, Kenjirô Tsuda, Gregory Abbey
Rated PG
Score 2/6

Yugi and Kaiba have a special duel that transcends dimensions.

Now, maybe I’m just a little to overly cynical in my middle age but I’m fairly certain that there are one or two duels featured in this movie that could have been avoided by the use of the words “No you crazy … (followed by an appropriate string of profanities)” but then again, those words would get in the way of telling a story, even if it’s as boring as this one. I’m really not entirely sure why I decided to buy and review this one, perhaps I was looking for a possible cure for insomnia, which the first two acts seem to be because I caught myself nearly falling asleep a couple of times while watching this.
Now I suppose that there are fans of the franchise out there who could possibly point out the differences in the motivations of the villains in the franchise. However, this is the first Yu-gi-oh movie that I have watched in about 13 years and I can’t help but think that it’s the same old shit in a bright and shiny package.
