Second cinematic spin-off from the popular 70’s police series. Regan & Carter head a Flying Squad investigation into a series of bank raids by a team of well-armed villains who are flying in from the continent.

Alright, this review might be a little late but here it is. For those of you who might be interested Sweeney 2 was released about 18 months after Sweeney had debuted in theatres and 8 months before the TV series came to an end.

Sweeney 2 has a similar tone to Sweeney! though its plot isn’t as juicy. Also, a product of its time with its attitude towards women, how the police conduct themselves and it also can be put on the list of how different cultures approach different movie genres. If Sweeney 2 had of been an American movie the guns used by the villains in this movie wouldn’t have been used for a shock value. Personally, I would have liked to see some directorial continuity in effort to ensure that both movies had similar overall tone but Sweeney 2 is just as watchable as Sweeney! It should that one of the key differences between the two movies was that Sweeney 2 had an ending that came across as something that you would possibly expect from an episode in a television series with everything wrapped up for the end.
I was actually kind of surprised to see that (Sir) Nigel Hawthorne was cast as a bureaucratic senior officer, considering that two years later he would be cast in the role that he would become primarily known for Sir Humphrey Appleby Yes Minister.

Sweeney!
