Col. Guile and various other martial arts heroes fight against the tyranny of Dictator M. Bison and his cohorts.

For those of you who were wondering Street Fighter was based loosely on the video game Street Fighter II which was released in 1991. Street Fighter was dedicated to Raul Julia, who died two months before the film’s release.

This really isn’t the most memorable movie that has been adapted from a video game and I suppose it was lucky for the filmmakers that this movie was made before the rise of social media, because there probably would have been some backlash from the fans about some of the liberties that were taken by the filmmakers with the material that they were working with (though for the record I never have been a big fan of the street fighter games).

I suppose the only memorable thing about this was Raul Julia’s performance because despite the cheeseiness of almost every aspect of the movie Raul seemed to have a little fun with his performance. Movies adapted from video games have been kicked around just as much comic book movies (especially in the 90’s) so given the context of the times there was no other option available for him. It is my firm belief that the only decent ‘video game’ movie that has been made is Hardcore Henry even though it wasn’t adapted from a video game.
