A giant egg is unearthed at a construction site and soon opened, releasing the terrible Ivan Ooze, who wreaks vengeance on Zordon for imprisoning him millennia ago. With Zordon dying and their powers lost, the Rangers head to a distant planet to find the mystic warrior Dulcea.

Before I get started with the review I have a small story. The first time I watched this movie I was 13 it was shown to me by my parents when I was in an ICU unit after being in a traffic accident which resulted in my spinal cord injury. Circumstances of the time resulted in the movie feeling just that little bit more real than it was due to the pain killers.

In certain aspects, the first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie might not have stood the test of time. Put simply computer generated effects in movies have come a long way in 22 years compared to some of the effects that were used here. While watching this I can say I was given a familiar nostalgic hug that you get when you would expect and then there is whole spirit of friendship which as far as I could tell was woven throughout the entire franchise. This probably isn’t the most well written movie I found myself groaning at the dialogue on several occasions and I even noticed one or two moments that suggested that the movie thought continuity was a dirty word.
I thought that it was a rather bold move by director Bryan Spicer to feature iconic Sydney landmarks such as the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Centrepoint Tower (to name a few) in his movie set in a fictional American town. But considering the entire movie was shot in Australia, and if you had access to these locations it would have been stupid not to use them.
