A group of high-school kids, who are infused with unique superpowers, harness their abilities in order to save the world.

For those of you who might not Know Power Rangers is the third film of the Power Rangers film franchise, and is a reboot that features the main characters of the original Power Rangers television series which ran from 1993 to 1995 (The Television series adapted stock footage from the Japanese TV series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, which was the 16th installment of Toei’s Super Sentai franchise). For those of you wondering yes, I watched the original series when it came to weekday afternoon TV in Australia and yes I will review the first two movies (assuming I find the DVD copies I’m fairly certain I own).

Back when the Power Rangers movie was announced some of you might remember there was calls by fans for it to be ‘Dark Gritty’ and there was even a fan made short film (Power/Rangers) was released which suggested a possible direction for the filmmakers to go. Well, this is not the ‘Dark Gritty’ movie that those fans where calling for. Personally, I felt that by about the start of the third act Power Rangers had hit the sweet spot of being Gritty while still managing to be a family film.
I was not overly with the actors who were cast as the power rangers, though Elizabeth Banks gave a great performance with a few creepy moments.
In a recent review for Doctor Who I talked about the evolution of action sequences, now even though the current series of power rangers might have similar style of action to the 90’s television series, the movie has clearly evolved from its mid-90s origin.

Oh (surprise surprise) and it seems that at least one sequel is coming.
