The TARDIS suffers an energy drain and crash-lands on the planet Exxilon. The Doctor and his companion Sarah Jane Smith are subsequently embroiled in a conflict between the Daleks and the human Marine Space Corp expedition, over the mineral “Parrinium” which can cure and give immunity from a deadly space plague.

Was originally broadcast in four parts from 23rd of February to 16th of March 1974 and should not be confused with the which was the Audio Play Death to the Daleks! which was the 3rd chapter in series one of the Dalek Empire audio play series written and directed by Nicholas Briggs.

Okay considering that this is a four-part serial I’m going to hold this in a higher regard then certain Doctor Who adventures that I have seen recently. Death to the Daleks and adventures of similar or greater length can afford to build to something where as the shorter adventures must step on the gas and go full throttle right from the start because they don’t have time to waste. I suppose what attracts me to the older Doctor Who adventures as opposed to the newer ones is the production values, I find it to be interesting to look at what they could achieve at the time. Death to the Daleks had examples of actors portraying aliens in questionable suits and there were aliens being controlled by fishing wire. Then of course there is the use Venusian aikido by the Third Doctor which in a way is the father to the faster paced martial arts fighting styles used by action stars.
