WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

For those of you who might be interested, this is the fifth feature-length movie that Mel Gibson has directed. When I first saw the trailer for Hacksaw Ridge it shot towards the list of movies that I was eager to watch and luckily it does not fall victim to the curse of trailer (though granted that usually solely reserved for comedies). I suppose one of the drawbacks of watching a movie is that even if you are not familiar with the history of the story in certain circumstances it can take away from the overall tension of the story because you know the direction of the movie making the journey all the more important.
Considering this was filmed in Australia I suppose there is a small element of everybody’s favourite movie watching game ‘spot the Australian actor’ I managed to spot a couple but after checking IMDB there were few actors that I did not even realise where Australian. It won’t surprise me if Hacksaw ridge receives at least one maybe two academy award nominations, Andrew Garfield gave a great performance and it was good to see Teresa Palmer not in a ‘teen movie’ ( the lasting memory I have of her is of her role in Warm Bodies).
