A disgraced member of the military police investigates a series of nasty child murders during the Stalin-era Soviet Union.

Child 44 was adapted from a 2008 novel of the same name by Tom Rob Smith of the same name and is a part of a trilogy of books. It should also be noted that when Child 44 took inspiration from the crimes of Andrei Chikatilo (though he operated much later then the period portrayed in the movie). Considering Child 44 deals with the investigation into a series of child murders this is not the type of movie that you watch if you’ve had a hard or depressed because it goes to a very dark place.
Tom Hardy gave a pretty good performance, though the last time that I’ve seen him deliver an Eastern European was as Bane back in 2012 for The Dark Knight Rises and I found that his accent as Bane came off a being more comical then menacing. So I suppose we should chalk the difference between the two deliveries of an eastern European accent to the misfortune of having to perform with that mask as Bane.
There was seem pretty good performances from all of the actors cast in this movie, though I thought that it was pretty interesting that as far I could tell there were no Russian actors cast in this movie, it would have been good to see at least one cast in a leading role.
There is line from the movie ‘There is no murder in paradise’ which featured on a title card at the beginning of the movie and was a reoccurring quote this was systematic of the delusion of the soviet system.
