The defiant leader Moses rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

This is one of those movies where it is pretty much a given that book is better than the movie. Admittedly I haven’t actually read the story in the bible but I was familiar enough with the basic story before going into the cinema not to be completely lost about what was going on. So how do I know that the story of Moses in the holy bible is better than the Ridley Scott directed Exodus Gods and Kings? Well Guinness World Records’ figures have the total number of copies in excess of 5 billion.
Exodus had the potential to be something great instead of just being kind of good. It had a great cast with the likes of Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, John Turturro and Christian Bale, As well as Ridley Scott in the director’s chair a man who is renowned for his strong visuals through his meticulous story boarding which is known as his ‘Ridley-Grams’.
Unfortunately, Scott really get any memorable performances out of his cast and with the movie’s 150 minute run time he really should have been building to a stunning climax that all epics should have instead of bloated and reeking with the stench of failure and disappointment. I mean honestly Cecil B. DeMille’s parting of the Red Sea scene even with the dated special effects of 1956, looked better then what Mr Scott put up on the Screen.
